iGEM (International Genetically Engineered Machine) est la première et la plus importante compétition étudiante internationale dans le domaine de la biologie de synthèse. L’initiative a été lancée en 2004 par le prestigieux Massachusetts Institute of Technology(MIT) et a lieu chaque année depuis.
Chaque équipe participant à iGEM développe un projet ambitieux autour de la biologie de synthèse. A la clef de nombreux prix portant sur chaque aspect développé lors du projet ainsi qu’une médaille récompensant la qualité globale du projet.
